If you are
contemplating joining (A.I.R.A.), you probably would like to know
something about the organization.
What follows is a brief description of the make-up of the club and some of its activities.
A.I.R.A. is
chartered by the State of Illinois as a non-for-profit corporation;
and has been in existence over 21 years.
We are a
group of professionals dedicated to technical improvements and
public services within our community.
The club is guided by four officers and two directors or Vocales who are elected by the general membership for a one year terms.
The Club
supports the KB9PTI repeater which is Located in the North Loop
area near La Salle St. & North Ave.
On the
frequency 443.975 + 5. PL tone 114.8. Our repeater Trustee
is Dominador Garcia KE9PE. Our repeater
covers
the Greater Chicagoland area and it suburbs. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to use our repeater .
General
meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 3203 N.
Elston Ave. in Chicago; attendance is
optional.
Usually an
informative program follows the handling of club
business.
We also have
a weekly information Net on Thursdays on our repeater at 7 Pm Local
time.
Public
Service and Emergency Preparedness are high on the priority list at
A.I.R.A. Our educational committee gives
instruction
classes for
the entry levels of Amateur radio, and we have several of our
members that have volunteered and formed our
own
VE team
through the ARRL to administer Amateur radio license tests. We also
have been active participants in the
annual
ARRL-sponsored
Field Day event in the last weekend in June. The repeater systems
are utilized by the Salvation Army and
American Red Cross for training nets and to provide emergency communications for their organizations.
